Light beyond the screen

Stefan Ihmig is a German media artist and founder of RE:SORB. Working with water, fog, projection and sound, he creates monumental light environments that extend beyond the screen into physical space. His practice brings together atmospheric projection methods, architectural mapping and interactive art. Based in Tbilisi, with a longstanding artistic practice in Berlin, he works internationally across festivals, galleries and public spaces.

Tessellation — The Sixth Sense, Bengaluru

Tessellation is a site-responsive volumetric installation on the brutalist silo of the former Alembic Glass Factory in Bengaluru: millimetre-accurate projection and layered holographic fog turn the concrete cylinder into a transparent vessel with a synthetic ecology inside — walked through by an estimated 14,000 visitors.

BEYOND — Monumental Water-and-Fog Light Environments

BEYOND is a monumental volumetric light installation by Stefan Ihmig / RE:SORB, presented at O.Z.O.R.A. Festival in Hungary in 2024 and at Boom Festival in Portugal in 2025. It brings water, fog, moving imagery and sound into a composition that extends beyond a screen and into the surrounding environment.

Depth/100 — O.Z.O.R.A. Festival

Depth/100 is a spatial outdoor 3D screen installation by RE:SORB with air, water and light as its only building blocks — a pressurised water shield and layered mist curtains that create a perceived depth of 100 metres or more.
