Lichtfest Leipzig 2014
For the Lichtfest Leipzig, RE:SORB created a show commemorating the Peaceful Revolution, incorporating historic footage cleared in collaboration with the museum ‘Runde Ecke’.
To mark the anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution in Germany, RE:SORB created a show for the Lichtfest in Leipzig — the annual festival of lights that commemorates the Monday demonstrations of 1989.
The studio researched and cleared historic footage and images of the events and wove them into the animation, in collaboration with the museum in the ‘Runde Ecke’, the former Stasi headquarters in Leipzig.
The show ran for eight minutes and was realised together with the Restaurant San Remo in the centre of Leipzig. The animation used historic documents and typewritten text, projected onto a façade.
The research was supported by the Bürgerkomitee Leipzig e.V., which also made exclusive Stasi recordings available for the show. Two further contributors provided footage of early Monday demonstrations, filmed with a camera that had been smuggled in.
