Mural & Street Art Mappings

Street art and projection mapping share the same canvas: the city. Since 2014 RE:SORB has animated murals and installations by artists such as Low Bros, Tape Over, Monarch.Ohne, Räuberkidz and Gérard Rancinan — rebuilding the artworks in 3D and remixing them with light, mostly at Urban Spree, Berlin’s open-air gallery in Friedrichshain.

This reel collects some of the studio’s favourite mural mappings; the individual projects are documented on their own pages.

The pieces collected here sit on very different surfaces. At the Plötzlich am Meer festival in Poland, RE:SORB animated a tape art sculpture by the Berlin artists Tape Over; the animation was made in a single afternoon on site. At Urban Spree the studio rebuilt a mural by the artist duo Low Bros in 3D and remixed the painting with light, and used a sculpture by Monarch.Ohne as a canvas for experiments in object mapping.

For the vernissage of Gérard Rancinan’s exhibition at the same gallery, RE:SORB mapped his monumental artwork ‘The Party Is Over’, a large-format photograph. Its tableau of figures was rebuilt in 3D and set in motion, with light travelling through the scene. At Fusion Festival 2018 in Lärz, a mural by the artist collective Räuberkidz at the Räuberhöhle was rebuilt and animated with 3D mapping.
